The Assessment & Evaluation Section
The Assessment & Evaluation section of your Portfolio should emphasize and demonstrate the following:
- Linking assessment to learning outcomes / expectations
- Assessing student learning and the degree to which each student achieves curriculum expectations
- Providing a range of ways for students to demonstrate their aptitudes, abilities, and learning.
- Collecting data on student performance in a methodical way, monitoring individual learning over time and giving formative feedback to students
- Communicating expectations to students
- Assisting students to monitor and reflect on their own learning.
We recommend the following entries to this section:
- A Belief Statement, which includes reference to the linking of assessment to curriculum expectations.
- Identification of Assessment Techniques you use.
- Modification of Assessment Tasks to Meet the Pupil Needs
- Examples of your Record Keeping
- Examples of your Communication with Pupils and Parents
If it has been possible, indicate how you incorporate the following in your assessment practices:
- Peer and self-assessment
- Student involvement in assessment (construction of rubrics; peer assessment)
- Non-traditional assessment practices such as authentic assessment or strategies that are often not used in a particular subject area, such as dramatization in science.
The Build Your Portfolio assistant will give you specific tables and charts, which you can use to keep this compacted.
